Up next on Way of the Renaissance Man… a special audio essay presentation titled… “Make the Coronavirus Kindness Choice.”

The following audio essay was written and narrated by Jim Woods. A slightly edited version of this essay was first published on March 18 th in Jim’s weekly column, "The Deep Woods" which can be found at JimWoodsInvesting.com.

The world is a very different place today than it was just a month ago.

In my area of professional expertise, financial markets, we went from raging bull market to a growling bear market in approximately three weeks. Yet financial markets are not the biggest difference in our world.

The biggest difference is that the coronavirus has provoked and unsettling mix of fear, uncertainty, angst, anxiety and a very real sense of impending doom in the minds of billions around the globe.

All over the planet, people are being quarantined, or are self-isolating, or practicing social distancing or whatever the proper term might be for any particular situation. In the United States, many store shelves are bare of essentials such as toilet paper, paper towels and cleaning products.

More importantly, many stores have experienced shortages of meat, milk, eggs and other vital food stuffs.

Today’s coronavirus milieu reminds me of the words of the great Thomas Paine, who famously wrote, “These are the times that try men’s souls.”
